Warm Welcome!

Hello and welcome to our blog! I say our blog because it is intended to function as a place for women to communicate to one another. I did not design it to be a one way communication or dictation. It is a discussion for us to unite as one voice. However, before we get into the important issues that women face, I want to discuss why I decided to create a forum for women in the first place.

I am a non-traditional, low-income, first generation, and underrepresented Latina women. What does this mean? According to American standards, these factors put me at a societal disadvantage. Still, I have high hopes of entering into a prestigious college and work toward Doctoral degree. As a way to increase my chances of getting into a graduate program, I decided to commit to a study abroad program. With a chance to go anywhere in the world, I decided to come to India. My journey throughout India became the stepping stones that led to this Blog.

As a young girl, I never realized the disparities that women face. My country, the United States (US), made me blind to gender inequality. Why? Because I am comfortable with my living conditions as a women in the US. Even though research shows women get paid less, are less likely to hold high status positions, and work harder to move up the corporate ladder in comparison to men, I never felt true inequality. Before I could truly understand the essence of gender inequality, I had to experience it. And, I did. Believe me; life is different on the other side of the world. Not hidden from view, women are unequal.

This experience has motivated me to make a difference the way I know how, and that is through communication. Toward an open a discussion, I started a personal Facebook group that consist of women only. The group is called EMP: Open Discussion. I created it after spending 5 months studying in India and have invited over 100 women to discuss issues across the world. As a group, we share ideas about current situation women face and give insight though our opinions. I have also stated a Facbook account for young girls called EMPOD: Young Women. My hope is that mature women can become mentors for the younger generation of girls through Facebook. Furthermore, I have created this Blog (purpose is stated on Blog page).

Please join me in this journey to create a social transformation for women across the globe. As we transition into new levels of consciousness, our voice needs to be heard. We, as women, possess insight that must to be shared with the world. Let us unite to create a better world for all humanity.
